First Impression

Hot, dry and with a summer smog was in fact my first impression, on the way from the airport into the city. However, as soon as we enter Santiago, things don't look quite the same...

It is developed, maybe not as much as Europe, but definitely not as underdeveloped as India. It has streetwalks, huge flat buildings, a quite ordered traffic (though I didn't arrive during the rush hour) and with quite common cars, fancy girls and fancily dressed. I had been warned though that I was going to one of the wealthiest areas of Santiago, so more to find out in the upcoming days.

The guesthouse where I am staying for these first days is indeed very nice, but with a peculiar concept. More on this shortly...

It begins...

It is now an undeniable truth: in less than two weeks, I will be moving to the other side of the ocean. Due to some weird order of events, I will have my first job in Chile.

During the next year, I will be working with one of the largest optical telescopes on Earth, in the middle of the Atacama desert, 2600 meters above sea level and about 12 kms from the pacific coast. More than just a working experience, it will be a life experience.

This blog will be a travel logbook for this first step, open to everyone who wants to discover Chile, but directed towards my friends. Feel free to post, ask questions, share thoughts, keep in touch...
